The government is going to provide financial and food assistance for three months to around 100,000 families affected by floods in the Haor region.
On Monday, Disaster Management Minister Asadul Habib Dulu said heavy rainfall and sudden flooding over the past few days have caused extensive crop damage in Haor and low-lying areas across six districts, reports bdnews24.com.
Authorities are working to prepare lists of affected households, he added.
Speaking after a session of the Deputy Commissioners' (DC) Conference at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka, he also said he would visit flood-hit Haor areas of Sunamganj on Tuesday.
He will be accompanied by Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid, Finance and Planning Advisor Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, and Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister ABM Abdus Sattar.
Unrelenting heavy rain has triggered flooding in Sunamganj and other Haor regions, submerging vast tracts of farmland and severely damaging crops.
