Dhaka to host US delegation for talks on trade deal implementation
A US trade delegation led by Assistant US Trade Representative for South and Central Asia Brendan Lynch is scheduled to visit Dhaka on a three-day visit to discuss the implementation of the bilateral Reciprocal Trade Agreement (RTA).
The visit, scheduled from May 5-7, comes amid heightening domestic debate over the terms of the pact and a recent legal challenge filed in the High Court over its constitutional validity.
In a statement issued on Monday, US Embassy Spokesperson Poornima Rai said the delegation aims to strengthen the trade and investment relationship between the two nations, reports bdnews24.com.
"The United States looks forward to partnering on implementation of the US-Bangladesh Agreement on Reciprocal Trade, which will enhance economic growth in both countries by improving market access, removing barriers to investment, and boosting commercial opportunities," the spokesperson said.
During the visit, the US delegation is expected to hold a series of meetings with senior government officials.
Foreign ministry sources confirmed that Lynch is slated to meet with Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir.
