7 more die of measles-like symptoms


As many as seven more children died of measles-like symptoms in 24 hours till 8am on Wednesday, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) yesterday.

It said, since March 15, the total number of deaths from confirmed measles has stood at 69, while deaths from suspected measles cases reached 363.
Besides, a total of 1,489 suspected measles cases and 126 confirmed measles cases were reported across the country in the last 24 hours from Tuesday 8am to Wednesday 8am, it said. 

Since March 15, the total number of suspected measles patients admitted to hospitals has reached 38,054. Of them, 33,832 patients have so far been discharged from hospitals. 

Measles is a highly contagious, serious airborne viral disease that causes a high fever and a characteristic, blotchy, red-purple-brown rash. While often considered a childhood illness, it can affect anyone, causing severe complications like pneumonia or brain swelling, particularly in children under 5. It is best prevented through vaccination (MMR).
