US carried out regime change in Bangladesh: Farhad Mazhar

Poet and thinker Farhad Mazhar has once again made explosive remarks regarding the fall of Sheikh Hasina during the 2024 uprising.

He said, "The United States carried out regime change here, and they are now in power; power is not in our hands."

Farhad Mazhar made these comments on Tuesday while speaking at a discussion meeting and documentary screening titled "Shapla Massacre: A Decade of Impunity." The event was organized by the NCP-backed organization National Olama Alliance.

He said, "There is a great danger ahead. Outside, there is the danger of Hindutva. We must unite in our revolutionary spirit."

Mazhar discussed various issues, including the May 2013 Shapla Chattar incident, neighboring India, and the role of the United States.

He stated, "The massacre that took place on May 5 at Shapla Chattar-we will definitely seek justice for it. There is no question about that."

He then asked the audience, "But I want to ask a small question: from whom have you sought justice?

"The structural power that came into our hands-the collective power of the people that came to us on August 5, 2024-why did it slip away from our hands?"

Farhad Mazhar said, "We ourselves will have to ensure justice. So if we truly want justice, we must look at ourselves. If we fail to understand our mistakes, not only the events of May 5, but many other alleged massacres under discussion will also remain without justice."

He further said, "Suvendu Adhikari has declared that Sheikh Hasina should be welcomed at Shahjalal International Airport with garlands around her neck.

"Why--because all important legal and constitutional questions of the state have been ignored by the NCP (National Citizens Party). I am with you, and I say this humbly. I stand with the youth. We must analyze our mistakes-what historical and practical reasons are pushing us toward a Hasina-less Hasina system-if we truly seek justice."

Mazhar added, "We did not remove Sheikh Hasina from Bangladesh through elections. If we think reforms can be achieved only through elections that would be a mistake. For that, we must understand the structural power of the people."

Speaking at the meeting held at the Institution of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh building in Kakrail, Dhaka, Farhad Mazhar warned, "If strong unity is not built among all people and political parties in the country, there is a risk of more massacres like the one at Shapla Chattar."

The event was chaired by the president of the organizing body, Maulana Ashraf Uddin. Among others who spoke were Member of Parliament Abdullah Al Amin from Narayanganj-4, NCP northern region chief organizer Sarjis Alam, Member of Parliament Atik Mujahid, NCP joint convener Sarwar Tushar, joint member secretary Saif Mustafiz, NCP leader Ishaq Sarkar, Ahmadi Kashemi, Musa Al Hafiz, and journalist Rezaul Rahman Lenin.
