Writ petition seeks travel bans on all interim advisers including Dr. Yunus

A writ petition has been filed in the High Court seeking an investigation into the roles of former Chief Advisor of the Interim Government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, and other officials in the activities related to the measles vaccines. The petition also seeks an order to impose a travel ban on Dr. Muhammad Yunus and 24 other former advisors.

On Sunday (17 May), Supreme Court lawyer Barrister M. Ashraful Islam filed the writ with the relevant branch of the High Court, alleging that they were involved in diverting the cholera vaccine from the state system to the private sector.

The petition names as respondents the Cabinet Secretary, Secretaries of Health, Home Affairs, and Public Administration, as well as the Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services and other relevant government officials.

Earlier, on 6 April, notices were sent to the concerned individuals regarding the issue of transferring the measles vaccine from the state system to the private sector. On that day, Barrister M. Ashraful Islam stated that there has been a severe outbreak of the sudden-death disease cholera across the country. Hundreds of children have already died, and countless children and ordinary citizens are hospitalized after being infected with measles.

He further stated that, due to their alleged involvement in the criminal activity of diverting a state-managed vaccine like the measles vaccine to the private sector, a demand has been made for the formation of an investigation committee. The writ requests that until the investigation is completed, a travel ban be imposed on all former advisors, including Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Dr. Asif Nazrul, Syed Rizwana Hasan, Adilur Rahman Khan, Nur Jahan Begum, retired Brigadier General Sakhawat Hossain, Lt. General (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Mostafa Sarwar Faruqui, the former Chief Advisor's press secretary Shafiqul Alam, and all relevant former personal assistants.
