PM visits child rape victim Ramisa's residence

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has stood beside the family of child victim Ramisa Akter, who was brutally tortured, raped and murdered in Pallabi. On Thursday (21 May 2026) at around 9:30 pm, he arrived at Ramisa's residence in Pallabi, Mirpur.

After concluding an ongoing emergency cabinet meeting at the Secretariat, the Prime Minister went directly to Mirpur Pallabi to meet the family of the deceased child. There, he spoke with Ramisa's grieving relatives, inquired about their condition, and expressed deep sympathy and condolences to the bereaved family. The Prime Minister was briefed in detail about the overall circumstances surrounding the murder and assured the family that the perpetrators would face strict punishment. 

It is worth mentioning that on Tuesday morning (May 19), police recovered the body of second-grade student Ramisa Akter from an apartment in Mirpur Section 11. The brutal murder has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation across the country. Demanding the swift arrest and trial of those responsible, local residents of Mirpur staged protests and blocked roads from Thursday evening onward.

Local residents and the victim's family view the Prime Minister's visit as a sign of hope. They believe that this high-level intervention will help ensure a speedy trial and exemplary punishment for those behind the murder of child Ramisa.
