CHT Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan's resignation accepted

Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan has resigned from the Cabinet citing health reasons.

Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon said Dewan submitted his resignation letter to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, mentioning that his health condition is preventing him from carrying out his official duties properly.

The Prime Minister accepted his resignation, he added.

"Due to my physical illness, various problems are being created in carrying out the regular responsibilities of the ministry," Dipen Dewan wrote in the letter.

Dewan said stepping down from his current position has become necessary in the interest of maintaining the momentum of the government's development and administrative activities.

Dipen Dewan had been serving as the Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs in the government formed after the BNP's landslide victory in the February 12 general election. Meanwhile, President Mohammed Shahabuddin has accepted the resignation of Dipen Dewan from his post as Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs.

The resignation letter of CHT Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan has been accepted by the President, said a gazette issued by the Cabinet Division following the order of the Head of State.

The resignation became effective from the date of its acceptance by the President, it added.
