Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General, has alleged that a certain group is trying to create an unstable situation in the country. He called on everyone to remain alert and vigilant under the current circumstances.
He made these remarks today, Wednesday afternoon, while speaking as the chief guest at a reception ceremony held in the newly formed Ruhia Upazila of Thakurgaon.
Mirza Fakhrul said, "At a time when we are moving forward under the leadership of Tarique Rahman to rebuild the country, we must ensure that we do not become confused or misled once again."
He added, "Under Tarique Rahman's leadership, we defeated Cyprus and were elected President of the United Nations General Assembly. This is a rare honor. A small country like Bangladesh will lead the United Nations General Assembly for next year."
Referring to efforts to address various national challenges, the BNP Secretary General said that all problems cannot be solved overnight. However, attempts are being made to bring about positive change gradually.
Expressing concern over the spread of drug abuse among young people, Mirza Fakhrul said, "Drugs destroy a nation. We must free ourselves from this menace."
Addressing women, he said that women are already organized by nature, but they need to become even more organized.
Through greater organization, women's empowerment must be ensured.
Among those present at the event were Mirza Faisal Amin, president of the district BNP; Paygam Ali, general secretary; and Abdul Jabbar, along with leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated organizations.
