Nassa Group workers block traffic movement in Mohakhali

Nassa Group workers block traffic movement in Mohakhali

Furious workers from three garments factories owned by NASSA Group blocked a major road in Dhaka's Mohakhali, demanding their unpaid salaries and wavers on Monday (8 June 2026).

The blockade brought traffic on the road in front of the Mohakhali Bus Terminal to a standstill from yesterday afternoon.

The demonstrators were employees of three factories operated by NASSA Mainland, an affiliated organization of NASSA Group. The factories are: NASSA Knit, NASSA Apparels, Western Dresses.

Shortly after 4:15pm yesterday, workers from the factories gathered on the Mohakhali-Gulshan Link Road and the road in front of the bus terminal.
As a result, hundreds of vehicles were left stranded in both lanes of the road stretching from Mohakhali to Shat Rasta. Imran Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Tejgaon Industrial Area Division, told reporters: "They are being made aware of the public suffering caused by the blockade. We are in contact with higher authorities."

A worker, Sagir Hossain, said the factories had remained closed since Eid. When workers staged a protest on June 4, factory authorities promised to resolve the issue by Monday, he said.

However, as the promise was not fulfilled, workers returned to the streets.

The protesters said their salaries for May remain unpaid and that other allowances have also not been disbursed either.

The factories have faced immense complications since the arrest of NASSA Group Chairman Nazrul Islam Mazumder, a former chairman of Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB), who was widely regarded as being close to the ousted Awami League ruling hierarchy. Nazrul Islam Mazumder was branded for illegal money transfer and devastating private banks during the Awami League regime who was arrested after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina moved to India on 5 August 2024. Nazrul Islam Mazumder was notorious for forcing news outlets to dete corruption reports from websites and abusing intelligence officials for tormenting investigative journalists. He also claimed a few years ago that he owns an asset volume of 68 billion dollars.
