HC grants bail to Professor Kalimullah

The High Court (HC) has granted bail to Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur former Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah in a case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

A High Court bench consisting of Justice Atowar Rahman and Justice Bishwajit Debanath issued this verdict on Sunday (14 June 2026). Senior lawyer Syed Mamun Mahbub confirmed this information to journalists. Syed Mamun Mahbub said that following the above order from High Court, now there are no barriers for Professor Dr. Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah's release from prison for the time being.

Lawyers Fazlur Rahman, AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Syed Mamun Mahbub and lawyer Kazi Ahsan Habib moved for Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah's bail petition. On the other hand, lawyer Khan Mohammad Mainul Hasan Lipon pleaded for ACC while Attorney General Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajol represented the state.

It may be recalled that Dr. Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah was arrested by Detective Branch (DB) from the capital's Mohammadpur area on 6 August 2025. Dr. Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah was Editor-in-Charge in The Asian Age and Daily Deshkal for some years. He was also highly vociferous against misgovernance and decline in law and order during immediate past Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus's ruling period.
