Measles: 4 die, 116 new cases


Bangladesh has registered four more child deaths linked to measles symptoms in a day, with 116 new cases confirmed in the same period.

In its regular measles bulletin on Sunday, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said that 93 people have died of confirmed cases of measles across the country since Mar 15. In addition, 619 people with suspected measles cases have also died over the time frame.

The Dhaka Division has logged the highest number of symptomatic fatalities at 266.

The death toll across other regions stands at 88 in Rajshahi, 78 in Sylhet, 51 in Chattogram, 39 in Barishal, 61 in Mymensingh, 28 in Khulna, and eight in Rangpur.

According to the DGHS, a total of 941 people sought hospital care with measles symptoms over the latest 24-hour count, with 889 requiring admission.
Dhaka registered the highest caseload, with 387 hospitalisations. Rajshahi saw 30 hospital admissions, Sylhet 57, Chattogram 191, Barishal 106, Mymensingh 60, Khulna 46, and Rangpur 12.

The DGHS said the cumulative number of suspected measles cases in the country stands at 99,207, while confirmed cases total 11,710.

So far, 79,152 of 82,844 patients hospitalised have been discharged after treatment.
