In a gesture of goodwill and friendship, Bangladesh on Wednesday presented a consignment of premium mangoes to West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. The mangoes were delivered to Suvendu Adhikari's office by Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner in Calcutta, Ayesha Akter, as part of Bangladesh's longstanding tradition of using the country's famed seasonal fruit to strengthen people-to-people ties and foster cordial relations.
Speaking on the occasion, diplomatic sources said the initiative reflected the spirit of goodwill and mutual respect shared between Bangladesh and the people of West Bengal. The annual exchange of mangoes has often been viewed as a symbol of cultural affinity and friendly relations across the border.
Suvendu Adhikari thanked the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission for the warm gesture and appreciated the fraternal sentiments conveyed through the gift. He expressed hope that such exchanges would continue to promote goodwill and strengthen the historic and cultural bonds between Bangladesh and the people of West Bengal.
The presentation took place at Adhikari's office on Wednesday, where Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner in Calcutta Ayesha Akter formally handed over the mangoes on behalf of Bangladesh.
It may be added that former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina sent mangoes to Mamata Banerjee and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the past as token of friendship and amity.
