Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has congratulated US President Donald J Trump and the American people on the occasion of the 250th Independence Day of the United States, reaffirming Bangladesh's commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties. In a letter issued on Saturday (4 July), the prime minister extended his "warmest felicitations" to President Trump and expressed confidence that the United States would achieve greater progress under his leadership in the years ahead.

In the letter, Tarique Rahman wrote, "As the United States is celebrating this glorious occasion across the nation, America 250 is also serving people around the world to draw inspiration from the American dream, sacrifice, freedom, values, tradition, ethos, and America's contribution to the rest of the world."

Describing the United States as "a valued friend and an important partner" in Bangladesh's democratic and development journey, he said that over the past five decades, bilateral ties had evolved into "a robust and multifaceted partnership encompassing trade and investment, education, defense, and extensive people-to-people connection."

The prime minister said the two countries had entered "a new chapter" in their relationship, citing substantial progress achieved since the beginning of this year in trade, energy cooperation and investment.

He also expressed appreciation for the United States' "continued support and generosity in addressing the Rohingya crisis."

"Rest assured that my government and I will continue to work with you and your administration to further strengthen and deepen our partnership in the areas of our shared interests," the letter said.

Concluding the message, the prime minister wished President Trump "good health, long life and continued success," and the people of the United States "lasting peace, prosperity and happiness."
