Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin Khokon, President of the Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association and Member of Parliament for Noakhali-1, has labeled the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) as the most corrupt institution in the country. He criticized the commission for sycophancy, stating that it merely flatters whichever government is in power, and urged the state to take a more proactive stance against corruption.
The lawmaker made these remarks as the chief guest at an event held on Friday morning (July 3) at the Chatkhil Upazila Agriculture Office premises, where tree saplings, agricultural inputs, Aman paddy seeds, and fertilizers were distributed among local farmers.
"If ACC officials themselves indulge in corruption, ordinary citizens are bound to face harassment," Barrister Khokon warned, reiterating that the government must intensify its anti-graft efforts.
He further alleged that while regular citizens are routinely harassed over trivial matters, major corporate figures are handed "clean chits" in exchange for financial kickbacks. To remedy this, he demanded a complete overhaul of the ACC's current culture, calling for the institution to be led by honest, impartial, and politically untainted individuals. He also pressed the search committee responsible for appointing the ACC Chairman and Commissioners to select only highly qualified and neutral candidates. The event was also attended by Upazila Agriculture Officer Junaid Alam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mizanur Rahman, and other local officials.
