Bangladesh recorded deaths of seven more children with measles symptoms in a 24-hour count till 8am on Sunday.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), it is the highest daily toll over the past 10 days. The last higher figure was reported on Jun 25,when nine children died with measles symptoms.
In its bulletin issued on Sunday, the health directorate said 93 people have died from confirmed measles since Mar 15, while 645 others died with symptoms of the viral disease.
Dhaka recorded the highest symptom-linked death toll at 278, followed by Rajshahi with 88, Sylhet 85, Mymensingh 62, Chattogram 53, Barishal 41, Khulna 29 and Rangpur 9.
The DGHS said 106 new measles infections were confirmed in the 24 hours from 8am Saturday, while 925 people with symptoms sought hospital treatment. Of them, 878 were admitted.
The admitted patients included 334 in Dhaka Division, 189 in Chattogram, 128 in Barishal, 79 in Sylhet, 51 in Mymensingh, 49 in Khulna, 38 in Rajshahi and 10 in Rangpur.
Since Mar 15, 88,844 people with measles symptoms have been hospitalised, including 85,122 who have recovered and been discharged.
Health authorities recorded 105,618 suspected and 12,632 confirmed measles cases until now.
