Immediate past interim government's adviser Mahfuz Alam has made an explosive comment regarding the activities of ultra-right-wing or "far-right" groups and the political dynamics surrounding them. In a Facebook post titled "Game over, Khoda Hafez!" posted yesterday, he strongly criticized attacks on shrines, newspaper offices and cultural institutions.
On Facebook, Mahfuz Alam wrote: "How far has the dangerous game of using far-right elements by right-wing actors and conspirators gone? Through using them as mercenaries in mob terrorism and in attacks on shrines, newspaper offices, and cultural institutions, the electoral passage has been completed. Now the Jatiya Shibir-right-wing alliance will wash their hands off!"
He further said: "Over the past two years, how these far-right elements were nurtured and produced by so-called right-wing actors, how they contributed to creating disillusionment among the secular and Liberation War-believing middle class regarding July, and under whose encouragement and 'partnership' these far-right elements turned July into an 'Islamic,' 'traditionalist,' 'revivalist' revolution and carried out unprecedented online and offline mob chaos-that, I hope, will now be discussed by informed people."
The former interim government adviser added: "I have been speaking against these far-right thugs and digital mobs since the beginning of last year. Because of that, I have had to endure less than pleasant conspiracies from the actors and the excesses of their foot soldiers."
