Sheikh Hasina will return 'only to face execution of verdict': Nahid
National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam on Friday said ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina will return to Bangladesh only to have her death sentence carried out.
He came up with the remarks while speaking as chief guest at a discussion and award-giving ceremony organised by the National SME Foundation at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh in the capital.
Nahid Islam said, "Today we watched an interview where someone said that they are planning to return to the country in December. Our demand is that the country has already suffered from 16 years of destruction. Now we also want her to return, to face the execution of the death sentence verdict."
"A verdict has already been delivered in Bangladesh. It is now the government's responsibility to bring back the person responsible for genocide through proper diplomatic and legal channels and enforce the judgment," he added.
"The Bangladesh government will talk to Delhi on this matter. There is no other party here. The government will decide when to bring her back, how to bring her back, and how to execute the verdict," he said.
Nahid further said that those who participated in the 2024 July Uprising were prepared to respond to any untoward political developments.
