The death toll due to confirmed and symptomatic measles has reached 750 in Bangladesh as three more children died from the disease in 24 hours until 8am on Friday (July 10).
According to the latest update from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the number of suspected measles deaths has risen to 657 while the number of laboratory-confirmed measles deaths has reached 93.
Some 901 new cases of measles symptoms were reported during the 24-hour period, bringing the cumulative number of symptomatic cases countrywide to 1,09,899, the DGHS data said.
Meanwhile, 128 new confirmed measles cases were recorded, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed infections to 13,326.
Since March 15, total 92,831 patients with symptomatic measles have been hospitalised across the country, of whom 89,234 have recovered, according to DGHS data.
The official data also reveals that of the 750 total fatalities recorded since mid-March, 657 were classified as symptomatic measles deaths, while the number of laboratory-confirmed measles deaths remained unchanged at 93. Despite the rising toll, the government's Measles-Rubella, in short MR, vaccination campaign 2026 has reported a 103 per cent coverage rate, completing the vaccination of over 1.84 crore children against a target of 1.80 crore, according to DGHS data.
