Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations under the Chattogram education board have been suspended until Jul 16 due to adverse weather and the ongoing flood situation across the division. Prof Syed Akhtaruzzaman, chairman of the Dhaka Intermediate and Secondary Education Board, confirmed the decision to bdnews24.com on Saturday.
The president of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee said the suspension would apply to HSC examinations under the Chattogram education board, as well as Alim, HSC Vocational, BMP and Diploma in Commerce exams conducted in the division.
"We have decided to suspend the examinations until Jul 16. I am waiting for reports from the deputy commissioners. Once those reports are received, the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee will issue an official notice," he said.
The Chattogram education board had already suspended HSC and equivalent examinations scheduled for Wednesday and Saturday because of the worsening weather and flooding.
This year's HSC examinations under the country's nine general education boards are being conducted using identical question papers.
On Jul 1, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said three sets of question papers had been prepared for each subject to deal with emergencies.
The nationwide HSC and equivalent examinations began on Jul 2.
A total of 1.27 million regular and irregular candidates from 11 education boards registered to sit the exams this year.
Chattogram Intermediate and Secondary Education Controller Prof Parvez Sazzad Chowdhury also confirmed the extension of the suspension.
"The decision was taken during a virtual meeting after discussions with the education minister and the education advisor," he told bdnews24.com.
He added that an official notification would be issued within about an hour and a half after reports from the deputy commissioners were received.
