14,384 teachers set to join primary schools in October
The uncertainty over the appointments of a total of 14,384 recommended assistant teachers for government primary schools is going to end as the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has said the joining process will begin within October.
The decision was taken at a virtual meeting held on Saturday, the ministry said in a statement.
Primary and Mass Education Secretary Shakhawat Hossain said the government is prioritising the joining of the 14,384 recommended assistant teachers for primary schools, adding that the process had been delayed due to investigation and procedural complexities.
"The joining process will begin by the upcoming October 30," he said.
The appointment process for the 14,384 assistant teachers was nearly completed during the tenure of the interim government, which ended on February 17, but its implementation remained pending because of legal complications.
A major legal hurdle was removed on July 2 when the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court overturned a 2019 High Court verdict on the seniority of teachers from nationalised primary schools. The ruling cleared the way for the recruitment of nearly 32,000 teachers, including the appointment of the 14,384 recommended assistant teachers.
Speaking at a press briefing later on Saturday, primary and mass education minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said the remaining formalities would be completed within the next few days before the selected candidates were sent for training.
'They will join their respective schools after completing the training,' the minister said.
