'US business leaders to visit Dhaka next week'
Senior executives from 25 leading US industrial and business firms will visit Dhaka by the end of next week.
Around 45 business leaders will meet officials from different ministries and agencies, as well as Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Prime Minister's Office (PMO) spokesperson Mahdi Amin said at a briefing in Tejgaon on Saturday.
The visit is aimed at laying the groundwork for greater US investment in Bangladesh, Amin said.
Earlier on Saturday, US Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs Sergio Gor met Tarique at the PMO and discussed expanding US investment and trade.
"On behalf of the United States, strong confidence has been expressed in the leadership of the elected prime minister of Bangladesh," Amin said.
"The United States has said that stability has returned to Bangladesh under the honourable prime minister's leadership. A positive democratic journey is under way, and his policies over the past five months have been praised."
The two sides discussed deepening economic ties, boosting trade and investment, creating jobs through US companies and providing policy support, he said.
Amin said the government wants Bangladesh to become more attractive to US investors and expand opportunities through the two countries' "historical relationship".
He also cited the US State Department's easing of its travel advisory for American citizens as reflecting growing confidence in Tarique's leadership.
"Bangladesh is open to US investors and everyone," Amin said.
