Price of 12kg LPG cylinder increases by Tk 70
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has raised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices for August, reversing last month's steep cut.
The price of the most widely used 12kg LPG cylinder has risen by Tk 70, from Tk 1,528 to Tk 1,598. The new price became effective from 6pm on Sunday, according to the BERC.
A media statement said the price of private LPG per kg at the retail level for August has been fixed at Tk 133.15, including VAT.
In July, the price was Tk 127.30. Accordingly, the price per kg has increased by Tk 5.85.
In August, the price of a 5.5kg cylinder has been fixed at Tk 732, 12.5kg at Tk 1,664, 15kg at Tk 1,997 and 16kg at Tk 2,130.
In addition, the price of an 18kg cylinder has been fixed at Tk 2,397, 20kg at Tk 2,663, 22kg at Tk 2,929, 25kg at Tk 3,329, 30kg at Tk 3,995, 33kg at Tk 4,394, 35kg at Tk 4,660 and 45kg at Tk 5,992.
The price of autogas used in vehicles has also been increased by Tk 3.27 per litre from Tk 70.40 to Tk 73.67.
The BERC said the August price was set against Saudi Aramco's Saudi CP benchmarks of $620 per metric tonne for propane and $640 for butane, giving an average of $633 based on a 35:65 propane-butane mix.
The average Saudi CP in July was $593 per tonne. This means the average Saudi CP in August increased by $40 per tonne.
The August price has been determined by taking into account the shipping and trader's premium for LPG imports of $180 per tonne and an average exchange rate of Tk 123.69 per dollar, the notice said.
The price of private LPG supplied in liquid form under the reticulated system, including VAT, has been set at Tk 129.40 per kg. The price of LPG supplied in gaseous form has been set at Tk 0.2875 per litre or Tk 287.50 per cubic metre.
The price of government LPG has been kept unchanged. The consumer price of a 12.50kg government LPG cylinder will remain at Tk 776.93.
Previously, BERC had reduced the price of a 12kg LPG cylinder by Tk 357 to Tk 1,528 for the month of July. With that adjustment, the price of autogas was fixed at Tk 70.40 per litre.
In June, the price of a 12kg LPG cylinder was reduced by Tk 55 to Tk 1,885. On Apr 19, the price increased by Tk 212 to Tk 1,940 and on Apr 2, it increased by Tk 387 to Tk 1,728.
The BERC said that bottled LPG, reticulated LPG or autogas cannot be sold at a price higher than that fixed by the commission at any stage, including LPG storage and bottling, distributors and retailers.
