BNP Standing Committee member Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has been appointed as the acting secretary general of the party. According to a press release posted on the BNP Facebook page on Thursday, the appointment was made in accordance with Section 7 (b) (6) of the BNP's constitution.
The press release, signed by Assistant Office Secretary Muhammad Munir Hossain, stated that the appointment will take effect immediately.
The announcement came after BNP presidential candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was elected president.
On August 15, Rizvi, then senior joint secretary general, was made a member of the party's Standing Committee. Earlier, on August 13, Fakhrul resigned as BNP secretary general after becoming the party's candidate for the presidential election.
Rizvi also serves as political adviser and adviser to the Ministry of Industries, with the status of a minister.
