Dengue: 5 more die, 839 hospitalized
Bangladesh has recorded five more dengue deaths and 839 hospital admissions in a 24-hour count.
Four of the five deaths were reported in Dhaka Division and the other in Mymensingh, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.
The mosquito-borne disease has killed 82 people in Bangladesh this year, including 28 in August alone, government figures show.
According to Sunday's health directorate bulletin, 61 patients were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and 91 in Dhaka South between 8am Saturday and 8am Sunday.
Another 135 were admitted outside the two city corporations.
Among other divisions, 117 patients were admitted in Barishal, 100 in Chattogram, 158 in Khulna, 79 in Mymensingh, 71 in Rajshahi, 23 in Rangpur and three in Sylhet.
A total of 28,929 dengue patients have been hospitalised since Jan 1, with 26,897 discharged after treatment. Another 796 patients left hospitals in the latest 24-hour period.
The DGHS has tracked dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000. The highest toll came in 2023, when 321,179 patients were hospitalised and 1,705 died.
Last year, dengue killed more than 400 people, while around 102,000 cases were reported.
