Parliament's third session set to continue until Sept 10
The third session of the 13th Parliament will run until Sept 10, the Business Advisory Committee has decided.
The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad on Thursday, with sittings set for 3pm except on government holidays, Aug 31 and Sept 1.
The meeting was held in the Cabinet Room of the parliament, with Leader of the House and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman attending.
Also present were Leader of the Opposition Shafiqur Rahman, BNP lawmakers Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Local Government Minister Abdul Moyeen Khan, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni, Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman, Opposition Deputy Leader Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker ATM Azharul Islam and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam.
Deputy Speaker Kayser Kamal attended the meeting on the speaker's special invitation.
The meeting discussed time allocation and duration for the third session, along with likely sitting days and durations for sessions over the coming year.
The speaker was authorised to make any changes to sitting times and working days.
According to a Parliament Secretariat, 2,818 questions have been received for the session, including 142 for the prime minister and 2,676 for other ministers.
It also received 81 attention notices under Rule 71 and 249 resolutions under Rule 131.
