Defence adviser, Saudi envoy discuss boosting military ties
Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Abdullah Zafer bin Abiyah on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister's Defence Adviser Brigadier General (retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam at his office at the Armed Forces Division (AFD) in Dhaka Cantonment. "During the meeting, they discussed the historic and fraternal relations between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia, mutual cooperation in the defence sector and other issues of bilateral interest," said an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate press release on Wednesday afternoon, BSS reports.
The two sides expressed firm commitment to sharing experience and technical expertise in disaster management to jointly address natural disasters and humanitarian emergencies.
They also stressed the importance of regular exchanges of high-level delegations between the armed forces of the two countries to elevate the existing strategic and military partnership.
The meeting also focused on strengthening higher training programmes and course exchanges between Bangladesh's National Defence College (NDC) and Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) and leading military academies in Saudi Arabia to enhance the professional capabilities of officers of the two countries' armed forces.
The Saudi ambassador highly praised the professionalism and overall capabilities of Bangladesh's armed forces.
The Defence Adviser thanked the ambassador for the positive progress in the friendly relations between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia over the years.
He expressed hope that the bilateral relations would become closer and stronger in the days ahead.
