ACC finds preliminary evidence of graft allegations against Asif Mahmud
Former interim government adviser and National Citizens Party (NCP) spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, along with three others, is facing a formal investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) after the commission found preliminary evidence supporting allegations of corruption against them.
A senior ACC official confirmed the matter to journalists on Wednesday (2 September 2026).
According to ACC sources, a special committee was formed to investigate allegations of irregularities and corruption through a syndicate involving recruitment and transfers, government procurement, and various administrative activities at the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The four-member committee is headed by ACC Deputy Director Md. Zahid Kalam. As part of the investigation, various aspects of the individuals’ activities, decision-making processes, and financial transactions were examined.
The ACC reportedly found evidence supporting the allegations not only against Asif Mahmud but also against then-Secretary of the Ministry of Youth
and Sports Md. Mahbub-ul-Alam, Joint Secretary Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Zubayed Hossain, and Deputy Secretary Md. Masum Ahmed.
According to ACC sources, an investigation was initiated into allegations of large-scale corruption against Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, who served as an adviser to the interim government formed after the July mass uprising. The allegations include serious offenses such as accepting bribes in exchange for providing illegal benefits in government and administrative activities, money laundering, and other forms of financial misconduct.
The investigation also covers allegations of transferring money abroad and conducting Bitcoin transactions through illegal means. In addition, allegations of extortion, nepotism, and using regional influence to obtain undue benefits were reportedly submitted to the ACC.
One part of the allegations concerns Asif Mahmud’s alleged direct intervention in the activities and restructuring of the cricket board while he was serving as adviser for youth and sports. Questions were also raised about his influence and role in decision-making in this regard. Sources familiar with the matter said the ACC examined various aspects of these allegations during its investigation.
The investigation also reportedly uncovered allegations that Asif Mahmud obtained various unlawful benefits through his former Assistant Private Secretary (APS), Moazzem Hossain. According to the allegations, the APS was used to exert influence in matters involving administrative and institutional communication and the implementation of decisions.
ACC sources said allegations of irregularities involving recruitment, transfers, and procurement at the Ministry of Youth and Sports were also investigated, including through an influential network. Information was collected regarding allegations that government procurement processes were manipulated to benefit specific individuals or organizations that administrative decisions were influenced, and that official powers were abused.
However, the ACC has not yet publicly released a detailed investigation report or disclosed the full particulars of each allegation. Although it has been reported that evidence supporting corruption allegations was found against the four individuals, the commission has not officially provided details on what legal action, if any, will be taken next.
