Bangladesh's first envoy presents credentials to New Zealand
Bangladesh's inaugural Resident High Commissioner to New Zealand Samina Naz has presented her Letter of Credence to Governor General Dame Cindy Kiro at a ceremony at Government House in Wellington. Following the proceedings on Thursday, Kiro congratulated Samina on assuming her duties, bdnews24 reports.
The high commissioner conveyed greetings from President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and the people of Bangladesh.
At the Governor General's request, she recited an original poem on Bangladesh-New Zealand friendship, which was warmly received by Kiro and officials of New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Samina reaffirmed Bangladesh's commitment to strengthening bilateral ties through cooperation in trade and investment, agriculture, education, sports, arts and culture, and people-to-people connectivity.
Bangladesh and New Zealand have maintained diplomatic relations since 1972.
The government established a resident mission in Wellington in 2025 to serve the growing Bangladeshi expatriate community and inject fresh momentum into bilateral relations.
The mission is also concurrently accredited to Samoa and Tuvalu.
