Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate a three-month nationwide campaign today aimed at preventing dengue and promoting cleanliness.
"A three-month nationwide 'Dengue Prevention and Cleanliness Campaign' will begin on September 12 to prevent dengue, as the prevalence of the disease has increased in the capital Dhaka and different parts of the country," said an official handout.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate the nationwide campaign at 9:00 am at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, it added.
In the public interest, Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and all private television channels have been requested to broadcast the inaugural ceremony live, the handout added.
In a statement on Friday, State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr MA Muhit said that public awareness activities must be intensified further across the country to prevent dengue.
"Everyone must play a responsible role from their respective positions to prevent the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes and control dengue. Regular attention must be given to ensure that water does not remain stagnant anywhere in and around homes, educational institutions, offices and courts," said Dr Muhit.
He said public awareness and collective participation are extremely important alongside the government initiatives to control dengue. The spread of dengue can be controlled to a great extent by destroying Aedes mosquito breeding grounds, maintaining regular cleanliness and raising public awareness, he added, BSS reports.
He said that if symptoms of dengue appear, people should seek medical advices promptly without any negligence.
He called upon the concerned departments, institutions and local administrations to conduct coordinated cleanliness and public awareness activities to prevent dengue.
