A unit of the Rampal Power Plant in Bagerhat has stopped generating electricity due to a technical fault, cutting the plant's output to nearly half.
The unit shut down around noon on Sunday, Bangladesh Power Development Board member (generation) Md Zahurul Islam said, bdnews24 reports.
The plant had been generating more than 1,100 megawatts of electricity before the shutdown.
However, after one unit shut down, generation fell below 600MW.
"Power supply from India's Adani has started. Rampal's Unit 2 has been shut down for maintenance."
Asked when the unit could resume operation, Zahurul said: "The unit has to be cooled down after shutdown. Two engineers from India are expected to arrive. Work will begin once they arrive.
"We expect it will take three to four days to bring the unit back online."
Meanwhile, Adani Power's second unit resumed electricity supply to Bangladesh's national grid at around noon after being shut down due to a technical problem late Thursday night (10 September).
