Govt to buy 6 more LNG cargoes

The government has approved the purchase of six cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) through international tenders and direct procurement.

The approval came at the 44th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) on Sunday, based on three separate proposals by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, bdnews24 reports.

Of five LNG cargoes proposed for October through the international quotation process, the committee approved the purchase of two.

The 52nd cargo, scheduled for Oct 9-10, will be bought from UK-based TotalEnergies Gas & Power at $28.95 per MMBtu, while the 56th cargo, scheduled for Oct 27-28, will come from Singapore-based Vitol Asia at $29.795 per MMBtu.

The committee also approved two proposals to import four more cargoes through direct procurement from two US companies.
