India-BD Friendship Pipeline delivers 4,000 MT diesel
Bangladesh successfully received approximately 4,000 metric tons-equivalent to nearly 4.71 million liters-of diesel at the Parbatipur main receiving terminal in Dinajpur district, marking the completion of the 72nd consignment under the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline framework.
Official transit operations commenced at 09:00 hours on September 12, 2026, with the full discharge concluded at 20:30 hours on September 13, terminal authorities confirmed.
The shipment falls under the purview of a 15-year bilateral agreement signed on April 9, 2018, which provides for the import of up to two million metric tons of diesel to fortify Bangladesh's energy security. Since the cross-border pipeline was officially commissioned on March 18, 2023, cumulative imports via this conduit have reached 330,087 metric tons.
Upon arrival at the northern depot, the stock was allocated in equal proportions among the nation's three primary state-owned oil marketing entities: Padma Oil Company Limited, Meghna Petroleum Limited, and Jamuna Oil Company Limited.
The domestic segment of the energy corridor spans 126.57 kilometers, buried at depths ranging from 5 to 8 feet. The subterranean pipeline traverses the upazilas of Tetulia, Panchagarh Sadar, and Boda in Panchagarh district, as well as Nilphamari Sadar and Chirirbandar in Dinajpur district, before terminating at the Parbatipur distribution hub.
Industry analysts regard the operational continuity of the pipeline as a key indicator of sustained strategic cooperation and regional infrastructure integration between New Delhi and Dhaka.
