Measles: 6 deaths, 77 fresh cases
Six people have died with suspected measles symptoms and 77 new measles cases have been confirmed in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours.
According to a bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health Services on Tuesday, four people died in the Dhaka Division, one in Sylhet, and one in Chattogram between 8am on Monday and 8am on Tuesday, bdnews24 reports.
The DGHS has been publishing measles-related data since Mar 15.
According to government figures, 100 people have so far died after being diagnosed with measles, while another 936 have died with suspected measles symptoms.
That brings the total number of deaths recorded over nearly six months to 1,036.
The Dhaka Division has recorded the highest number of deaths with suspected measles symptoms, at 423, followed by Sylhet with 162.
The other deaths were recorded in Rajshahi, 93; Mymensingh, 77; Chattogram, 71; Barishal, 57; Khulna, 39; and Rangpur, 14.
The health directorate said another 1,239 people with suspected measles symptoms sought treatment at hospitals across the country in the past 24 hours. Of them, 1,162 were admitted.
The new admissions included 367 in Dhaka Division, 266 in Chattogram, 193 in Sylhet, 109 in Barishal, 98 in Khulna, 81 in Mymensingh, 29 in Rajshahi and 19 in Rangpur.
The number of suspected measles cases in the country has reached 173,959, while 20,201 cases have been confirmed.
The DGHS cautioned that not all patients who visit hospitals or those who remain outside hospitals are tested for measles. As a result, the exact number of people infected with measles cannot be determined.
