Countless graft allegations chase Asif Mahmud
Corruption charges, embezzlements and extortion complaints are mounting incessantly against the immediate past interim government’s Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan who has hit news headlines over and over again for reasons of mammoth accusations that made him all the more controversial.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has already begun inquiries about the corruption allegations over Asif Mahmud. Latest claims from different sources show that he is blamed for siphoning off 4500 crore taka to Dubai, 3000 crore taka to Singapore, 2000 crore taka to Australia and 1500 crore taka to Switzerland.
Moreover, allegations show that Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan took bribes of 60 crore taka for the appointment of Administrators in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), 65 crore taka for the appointment of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in Gazipur City Corporation, 52 crore taka for the appointment of engineers in Local Government and Engineering Division, 10 crore taka for selecting Managing Director for Dhaka WASA and 2 to 10 crore taka for the appointment of Deputy Commissioners (DC) in various districts.
Furthermore, reports have surfaced that Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan extorted commissions and embezzled enormous sums of money equivalent to 1200 crore taka for a number of development projects like water refineries and stadiums.
Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan was in charge of Ministry of Youth and Sports and Local Government and Rural Development Ministry during the interim government’s regime.
