Youths Should Be Engaged With Art, Music and Sports

The youth are the most energetic and promising section of society. Their physical strength, creativity and enthusiasm can play a vital role in building a prosperous Bangladesh. However, academic pressure, unemployment, excessive use of social media and a lack of healthy recreational opportunities are creating challenges for many young people. Experts and educators increasingly emphasize that youths should be actively engaged with art, music and sports to develop their talents and become responsible citizens.

Art provides young people with an opportunity to express their thoughts, emotions and creativity. Drawing, painting, photography, theatre and other forms of artistic activity can help youths develop imagination and confidence. In Bangladesh, schools, colleges and cultural organizations can arrange art exhibitions, drama competitions and creative workshops to encourage young people to explore their abilities.

Music is another important part of a balanced youth life. Learning to sing or play an instrument can develop discipline, patience and concentration. Bangladesh has a rich musical heritage, including folk, classical and modern music. Encouraging young people to learn and practise music can help preserve this cultural heritage while providing them with a positive way to spend their leisure time.

Sports are equally important for the physical and mental development of youths. Football, cricket, badminton, athletics and other sports help young people remain physically fit and learn important qualities such as teamwork, leadership, discipline and perseverance. Sports can also bring people together and create a sense of friendship and national unity. Schools and local communities should therefore provide safe playgrounds and regular opportunities for young people to participate in sporting activities.

Engagement in these activities can also protect youths from various negative influences. Excessive screen time, drug abuse, unhealthy lifestyles and involvement in antisocial activities can become serious problems when young people lack constructive ways to use their time. Art, music and sports can offer healthy alternatives and help them build meaningful relationships. In Bangladesh, greater attention should be given to extracurricular activities alongside formal education. Educational institutions should provide adequate facilities, trained instructors and regular competitions. Local authorities and community organizations can also create cultural centres, sports grounds and youth clubs, particularly in areas where such facilities are limited.

The future of Bangladesh depends greatly on its young generation. Academic knowledge is important, but education should also develop creativity, physical fitness, emotional strength and social responsibility. By giving youths greater opportunities to participate in art, music and sports, Bangladesh can help them discover their potential and prepare them to contribute positively to society.
