Police raid JaSaD office in Gulistan
Police raided the main office of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSaD) in Dhaka's Gulistan.
The operation began around 3pm on Saturday, Sub-Inspector Nazmul Hossain, who was at the scene, told bdnews24.com.
"Police received the information around 3pm and went to the third floor, where they found them at the JaSaD office. They were holding a meeting here," he said.
Nazmul said nearly 400 people were inside and were being detained and taken away.
DMP Deputy Commissioner for Media and Public Relations Md Akhtar Hossain told bdnews24.com around 4:15pm that police had learned that "Joy Bangla" slogans were shouted outside the office while a meeting was under way inside.
"Police went to the scene and are taking people away. So far, 30-40 people have been taken to Paltan Police Station. The operation is still under way, and a decision will be made after the entire process has been reviewed," he said.
Asked about the matter, Sazzad Hossain said, "This is a lie; our representatives' meeting was under way.
"Why would Awami League leaders and activists come here? The whole point is to make something up and attack us."
He claimed police arrived around 3pm, removed BNP and affiliated-organisation leaders and activists from the JaSaD office, and then began detaining JaSaD leaders and activists.
Shahbagh Jubo Dal Member Secretary Moazzem Hossain Topon told reporters around 4:45pm that 500-600 people had arrived from Kushtia, Jashore, Chuadanga, Satkhira and elsewhere to hold a "secret meeting" aimed at creating unrest.
"We learned around 11:30am that a secret meeting was taking place here. Some of our people came and confirmed it. We then surrounded them and informed the administration.
"So far, 95 people have been taken to the police station. Many others are still here."
