Dengue claims another 6 lives, 2158 new patients hospitalized
In Bangladesh, another six people have died after being infected with dengue in the past 24 hours. During the same period, 2,158 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals, marking the highest number of new cases recorded in a single day so far this year. With this, a total of 128 people have died from dengue and 37,848 have been infected during the first 27 days of this month.
The information was disclosed in a bulletin issued on Sunday, by the Health Emergency Operations Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
According to the bulletin, between 8:00 a.m. Saturday and 8:00 a.m. Sunday, 227 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals in Barishal Division, 345 in Chattogram, 356 in Dhaka Division (outside the city corporations), 311 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 197 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 329 in Khulna, 132 in Mymensingh, 176 in Rajshahi, 73 in Rangpur and 12 in Sylhet.
During the same period, 1,755 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals.
The DGHS said that, overall, the number of dengue-related deaths in the country has reached 225 so far this year, while the total number of infections has risen to 73,694. Of those who have died this year, two deaths occurred in January, two in February, one in May, 13 in June, 36 in July and 43 in August.
Of the total dengue patients recorded so far this year, 62.4 percent are male and 37.6 percent are female.
