Social Progress Through Scribes and Paperwork
Basically, society and literature are rated as two sides of the coin. Humanity after our birth in this world, is motivated by the people, friends and close relatives. This is a common phenomenon all around the globe. Obviously, the role played by parents, paternal uncles, maternal uncles and close relatives of the family play prolific roles in the developing new generations of the family.
Let me delve deeply in my thoughts. Now coming to the core paths, we find whenever we turn the pages of works of sociology, we have to take stock or note of literature. This is because literature is the basics of our life. Because it is through literature we try to generate knowledge on sociology. It is through the mode of sociology we develop a repository of knowledge of sociology. Not only are we aware of sociology, along with the base of literature humanity becomes deeply prone to history, political science, international relations and industrial economy.
Now let me come to the historical aspect of literary influence upon societal development. Arriving at the key issue, let me touch upon the literary impact in our societal development. Literature no doubt plays a significant role in shaping society. Along with the influence of literature, people are motivated to act and think. To be more delve oriented, literature is a term which may be defined as a sort of creative or imaginative writing which is inclusive of poetry, fiction, drama and non-fiction. Rabindranath Tagore, noted poet and Nobel Laureate in literature also narrated boldly that it has artistic or aesthetic aspects, which makes use of language in a variety of ways, finally conveying a basic thought in our mind and heart.
According to Gabrielsen, Blikstad--Balas, Tenberg, literature includes plays, poetry, brief stories which are a part of long novels and sacred scripture. Whatever the author’s views on society and human psychology stands at present, are all well reflected upon our society. Hence literature is a corpus of complexities of human society which reaches out to ever-evolving social mores of human civilization.
Leaving aside the above issues, we find that it is through the mode of literature, we find the basic sense of societies through which we try to revamp us to a new dimension.
Literature also has a deep impact upon nation building. In this regard, the nation consists of the following elements. These are stated as follow:
Development of new thoughts.
Development of scientific bent of mind.
Development of creativity in life.
Inheriting the positives of life.
It is since the dawn of humanities; we find that literature motivates us to be civilized so that we are able to be accepted well within our society. On one point, we find literature shows the path of progress and development in our society. Like Rabindranath Tagore, Yeats, Sarat Chandra Chatterjee, Chaucer, William Shakespeare, Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, John Milton, Jane Austine, Charles Dickens, Oscar Wilde, Mary Shelly etc. all have immensely contributed towards the growth and development of literature.
The noted counseling psychologists in India and other parts of the globe, always appealed to the societies to be more immersed in the world of literature. They appealed to the citizens that the more we read literature, the more our mind and intellect become more refined. Through this pattern, we reiterate that our outreach becomes more upwards towards different levels of the globe.
Now the modern society has reached to such a state of affairs, through which we tend to focus upon the development of society. In this regard, apart from literary impact upon society, literature has a good impact upon science, technology and medical science.
Very recently we lost a towering and charismatic figure in the world of literature and society. She was Ketaki Kusari Dyson. She played a prolific role in the pursuit of intermingling literature, society, science and romanticism. Though Late Dyson is no more within us, but by dint of her works, she will remain immersed in our mind and heart in the upcoming days of life.
Around the globe, there were towering figures who wrote about integration of literature, science and technology. The names are stated as such, H.G. Wells, Mary Shelly, Aldous Huxley and Ursula K. Le Guin.
Summing up the above hypothesis, it can be interpreted as such that English language and literature has its deep-rooted pivot on other subjects. The more we read English the more our thoughts and creativity envision new heights. When we begin our academic life, then we understand the importance of English language and literature profoundly. This is because the thoughts generated in our mind, through reading English language, will be beneficial to us. This we cannot ignore till the last breath of life. The same impact we find from reading different mother languages of India and the Sub-Continent. Despite all the odds, I would like to reiterate that Bengali language and literature have its deep impact in our societal development and upliftment. Thoughts by poet and Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore will always remain an eye-opener in this regard.
