Measles: 4 more die, 1,221 hospitalized
Another four people have died with measles symptoms over the past 24 hours, while 1,221 patients have sought hospital care.
Of all the patients that have been admitted with viral symptoms, 128 have been confirmed with measles, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). The latest deaths have taken the number of people who have died with measles symptoms this year to 1,007. A further 101 people have died after being confirmed with measles, bringing the combined toll to 1,108.
One death each was reported in Dhaka, Sylhet, Chattogram and Mymensingh divisions during the 24-hour period ending at 8am on Tuesday, a DGHS bulletin said on Wednesday.
Dhaka Division has recorded the highest number of deaths among patients with measles symptoms at 452, followed by Sylhet with 178. Rajshahi has reported 93 deaths, Chattogram 85, Mymensingh 80, Barishal 60, Khulna 44 and Rangpur 15.
Of the 1,221 patients who sought hospital care, 1,145 were admitted. Dhaka recorded the highest number of new admissions at 396, followed by Chattogram with 262 and Sylhet with 164.
The number of patients who have sought hospital care with measles symptoms has reached 191,731, including 21,520 confirmed cases, according to the DGHS.
Since Mar 15, 169,800 patients have been admitted to hospitals, of whom 162,873 have recovered and returned home.
The health directorate has cautioned that not all patients who seek medical care, including those outside hospitals, are tested for measles.
As a result, the actual number of confirmed cases cannot be determined, with official records covering patients who seek or are admitted to hospitals.
