Renowned journalist, progressive media personality, and Editor-in-Chief of bdnews24.com, Toufique Imrose Khalidi, has passed away (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Raji'un). He breathed his last on Friday at a hospital in London, UK, where he was undergoing medical treatment.
Toufique Imrose Khalidi was also one of the closest allies of The Asian Age. Following his sudden demise, the entire Asian Age family expressed deep grief and shock. Shoeb Chowdhury, Chairman of the Editorial Board of The Asian Age, offered profound condolences on his passing, stating that the loss of a rare and exceptional journalist like Toufique Imrose Khalidi is an irreparable damage to the nation.
It was noted that the former Hasina government was severely displeased with him, which inflicted significant mental, physical, and professional hardship upon his life. Nevertheless, he refused to back down or be silenced.
For over three decades, Khalidi made bold and transformative contributions to both national and international journalism. Beginning his career at Daily Sangbad, he later earned widespread acclaim during his tenure at BBC Radio and Television. In 2006, at the dawn of digital journalism in Bangladesh, he took charge of bdnews24.com and successfully pioneered the country's first 24/7 internet-based news portal, transforming it into a premier media outlet.
His courage, brilliant intellect, and uncompromising dedication to journalism leave behind a immense void that will be felt for a long time to come.
