Toufique Imrose Khalidi was a free-willed journalist: Amir Khosru

Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said that bdnews24.com Editor-in-Chief Toufique Imrose Khalidi practiced journalism with a free-willed vision.  Expressing deep sorrow over his death, the finance minister described Khalidi's passing as "unexpected."

Toufique Imrose Khalidi had been in London on a personal trip. He suddenly fell ill while there.

After suffering a brain hemorrhage, Khalidi was taken to London's St Bartholomew's Hospital on Thursday night. Doctors pronounced him dead at 2:23 p.m. local time on Friday.

In a condolence message on Saturday morning, the finance minister said, "I had a long-standing relationship with Toufique. He was at The Daily Star, then he went to the BBC, and later served at several other organizations for some time.

"I have known him for many years. We remained in regular contact with each other."

Speaking about Toufique Imrose Khalidi, the finance minister said, "I am deeply saddened. He was a good journalist. He had his own distinct identity, and his journalism was independent.

"Toufique Imrose Khalidi's death is unfortunate. He was also relatively young. He always practiced journalism from his own independent perspective, rooted in the spirit of the Liberation War."
