Dengue death toll crosses 300

The dengue situation in Bangladesh has taken a worrying turn as the death toll due to the mosquito-borne disease has now stood at 303 with four more fatalities in 24 hours till 8:00am on Sunday.

A total of 2,193 people were admitted to hospitals across Bangladesh during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the deaths, two were reported in Khulna division, while one each was reported in Chattogram and Rajshahi divisions.

A total of 1,796 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals during the latest 24-hour period, the DGHS bulletin said.
Currently, 6,169 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at different hospitals across the country.

The number of people hospitalised with dengue this year has reached 99,275, of whom 92,803 have been discharged.
Bangladesh usually experiences its dengue season between June and September. 

The mosquito-borne disease has shown a sharp rise in infections and related deaths compared with the corresponding period last year.
Dengue is transmitted to humans through the bites of infected mosquitoes. There is no specific treatment for the viral infection.
