Planting More Trees in Dhaka City Is Important

Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh, is one of the most densely populated cities in the world. Every day, the city is becoming more crowded due to rapid urbanization, increasing traffic, and the construction of buildings. As a result, air pollution, excessive heat, and environmental problems are increasing. In this situation, planting more trees in Dhaka city is extremely important for protecting the environment and ensuring a healthy life for its residents.

Trees play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance. They absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen, which is essential for human survival. They also help reduce air pollution by trapping dust and other harmful particles. Dhaka is well known for its polluted air, especially during the dry season. Planting more trees along roadsides, beside schools, in parks, and around residential areas can help improve air quality and make the city healthier.

Another important benefit of trees is that they reduce temperature. Due to the increasing number of buildings, roads, and vehicles, Dhaka often experiences intense heat during summer. Trees provide shade and cool the surrounding environment through their leaves. They can also help reduce energy consumption by lowering the need for air conditioning. Moreover, trees absorb rainwater and help reduce surface runoff, which may contribute to waterlogging in urban areas.

Trees also make the city beautiful and peaceful. Green spaces provide people with places to walk, exercise, relax, and spend time with their families. They create habitats for birds, butterflies, and other small animals, helping to preserve urban biodiversity. A greener city can also support people's physical and mental well-being.

Unfortunately, many trees in Dhaka have been cut down to make room for roads, buildings, and other development projects. Parks and open spaces are also under pressure from unplanned urbanization. Therefore, the government, city corporations, educational institutions, private organizations, and ordinary citizens must work together to protect existing trees and plant more.

The authorities should organize regular tree-planting programs and ensure proper care of newly planted trees. Native tree species should be preferred because they are generally better adapted to local conditions and can support local wildlife. Schools and colleges can encourage students to participate in tree-planting campaigns. Citizens should also avoid damaging trees and report illegal tree cutting.

In conclusion, planting more trees in Dhaka city is not merely an environmental activity; it is a necessity for our survival and future generations. A green Dhaka will be cleaner, cooler, healthier, and more liveable. Therefore, everyone should come forward to plant and protect trees and make Dhaka a greener and more beautiful city.
