Job-Oriented Education Is Still to Be Popularized in Bangladesh

Education is the backbone of a nation, and it plays a vital role in the development of a country. In Bangladesh, the education system has expanded significantly over the years. However, job-oriented education is still to be enhanced to meet the growing demands of the labour market. A large number of educated young people remain unemployed because their qualifications and skills do not match the requirements of employers.

One of the major problems in our education system is its excessive focus on theoretical knowledge rather than practical skills. Many students complete their degrees without acquiring the technical knowledge, communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and professional experience needed for employment. As a result, employers often struggle to find skilled workers, while graduates struggle to find suitable jobs.

Another important issue is the limited development of technical and vocational education. Many students consider vocational training less prestigious than general education. This traditional attitude discourages them from learning practical skills. Moreover, insufficient modern equipment, a shortage of qualified instructors, and weak cooperation between educational institutions and industries make the situation more difficult.

To address these challenges, the government should take effective steps to modernize the education system. Technical and vocational education should be expanded and made more attractive to students. Schools, colleges, and universities should introduce courses that reflect the changing needs of the job market. Greater emphasis should be placed on information technology, agriculture, engineering, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and other employment-oriented fields.

Furthermore, educational institutions should establish stronger partnerships with industries and businesses. Internship programs, apprenticeships, career counselling, and practical training can help students gain valuable work experience. Teachers should also encourage creativity, critical thinking, teamwork, and communication skills. At the same time, the government and private sector should invest more in skill development programs for young people, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Job-oriented education can also encourage self-employment and entrepreneurship. With proper training and financial support, young people can establish small businesses and create employment opportunities for others. This would help reduce unemployment, alleviate poverty, and strengthen the national economy.
