Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Opposition Leader Dr. Shafiqur Rahman on Saturday said that the 11-party alliance will continue its movement until the referendum verdict is implemented.
He came up with the warning while addressing a rally organized by the 11-party alliance at Shibbari Intersection in Khulna.
Shafiqur Rahman accused the BNP of securing a parliamentary majority through electoral engineering and then refusing to accept the referendum verdict.
He emphasised that their demands represent the aspirations of all citizens, including trial for the July Uprising massacre and killings over a period of 15-and-a-half years, curbing money laundering, stopping extortion, halting partisan appointments to key state roles, and securing fertiliser for farmers.
Khulna City Jamaat Ameer Muhammad Mahfuzur Rahman presided over the event, conducted by Khulna-2 MP Adv. Sheikh Jahangir Hossain Helal.
Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish Ameer Mamunul Haque, Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar and Bangladesh Nizam-e-Islam Party Ameer Abdul Kayum Sobhani were among the special guests. Other senior leaders of the 11-party alliance also attended.
The long march began from the north gate of the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram in Dhaka at around 8:30am on Saturday, with a large convoy heading towards Khulna and Kushtia.
Around 1,500 vehicles joined the approximately 410-kilometre-long procession from Dhaka to Kushtia.
After the Khulna rally, the procession was scheduled to pass through Murali intersection in Jashore and the bus terminal in Jhenaidah before concluding at Shaheed Abrar Fahad Stadium in Kushtia.
