Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate the BNP's central rally in the capital on Saturday, marking the National Revolution and Solidarity Day. Tarique Rahman expressed hope that the spirit and legacy of 7 November will serve as a guiding force to make Bangladesh a prosperous country.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi disclosed the program while talking to reporters at the party's Naya Paltan central office on Friday.
He said rallies would be held in most districts and metropolitan cities across the country on the occasion.
"In Dhaka, the rally will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in front of the party's central office in Naya Paltan," Rizvi said.
The rally will begin after the Prime Minister delivers his inaugural speech, he said.
It will start from Naya Paltan and proceed through Kakrail, the Chief Justice's residence, Hotel InterContinental intersection, Bangla Motor and Farmgate before ending at Manik Mia Avenue, Rizvi added.
Before the rally, the Prime Minister and senior party leaders will pay tribute by placing floral wreaths at the graves of martyred President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia in Sher-E-Bangla Nagar at 8:30am.
Rizvi said the party's different associate bodies would also organize programs, including discussion meetings and photo exhibitions, alongside the central rally.
He said the BNP's Dhaka north and south units and its associate organizations were working to make the rally a success.
A stage is being built in front of the party's central office in Naya Paltan for the Prime Minister to inaugurate the rally.
The BNP has already announced a weeklong program marking National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
Bangladesh observes National Revolution and Solidarity Day on November 7, commemorating a significant and defining chapter in the country's political history. The events of November 7, 1975, marked a turning point in the nation's post-independence journey, reflecting the aspirations of soldiers and civilians for national unity, political stability, democracy, and social justice.
The historic revolution brought Ziaur Rahman to the forefront of national politics and opened a new chapter in Bangladesh's political development. His leadership subsequently became associated with efforts to establish democratic institutions, restore multiparty politics and promote equal rights and political participation. The introduction of a multiparty political system provided an opportunity for different political groups to participate in the country's political process and contribute to national development.
Ziaur Rahman believed that political independence would remain incomplete without economic emancipation and social justice. His vision emphasized reducing the gap between rich and poor and ensuring that the benefits of development reached people across all sections of society. To achieve these objectives, his government undertook a broad range of programs focusing on rural development, agricultural production, infrastructure, education, public health, and employment generation.
His development philosophy placed particular emphasis on developing rural Bangladesh. Agricultural modernization, irrigation facilities, expanded rural infrastructure and increased public participation in development initiatives were among the important priorities. These initiatives sought to improve living standards, create economic opportunities, and strengthen the country's self-reliance. His emphasis on grassroots participation also reflected an understanding that sustainable development requires the active involvement of ordinary citizens.
Beyond his political and economic contributions, Ziaur Rahman occupies a glorious place in Bangladesh's Liberation War history. A valiant freedom fighter and Sector Commander, he played a significant role in the country's struggle for independence in 1971. His announcement of independence through the Kalurghat Radio Station remains an important historical episode. His military experience, wartime leadership and subsequent political career shaped his public image as a prominent national leader.
However, November 7 also remains a politically contested date, with different groups interpreting its significance through different historical and ideological perspectives. A balanced understanding of the day requires acknowledging its complexities while recognizing its place in Bangladesh's national history.
As Bangladesh commemorates National Revolution and Solidarity Day, the occasion offers an opportunity to reflect on democracy, national unity, equal rights, economic justice and inclusive development. The enduring challenge for the nation is to transform these aspirations into meaningful opportunities and improved living standards for every citizen, regardless of economic or social background in light of the vision of Ziaur Rahman.
