Syzygium cumini (Black plum) is a very popular fruit of summer in Bangladesh. Though for its English name there are many debates: somewhere it's called Black berry, it's just the mistranslation and wrong name for this tropical fruit. Because Black berry is completely a different fruit from an unrelated family to Syzygium cumini.



Somewhere it's called Black plum. But it's known as jambul, jambolan, jamblang or jamun largely. However, but in our country Syzygium cumini is known as 'Jaam' in Bengali. It's from the evergreen tropical plants.

The unripe fruits are seen solid green, becomes all black when they got ripe completely. And between these two colors reddish magenta is one, when this fruit are on their middle age. I mean half ripe fruits are seen reddish magenta. Usually from the first part of June to middle of July Syzygium cumini are available to buy in our market places. It's very rich in various types of nutrients and also beneficial for health.

It's very easy to take because like other fruits it doesn't need to unpeel before consume. Its sweet creampie taste is favorite to all aged people. Along with many more benefits this sweet tropical fruit is very useful for our hair and skin health.
