Annisul Huq came to the spotlight after becoming Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation from a successful businessman and TV anchor. Though Annisul Huq was not an active politician, he was elected as the mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation in 2015 with the ticket of the ruling Awami League with the slogan 'clean, safe and smart city'. He had a dream to make Dhaka city livable.
He dreamt for a smart Dhaka. Many development works have been completed in his tenure. There is no doubt he has successfully performed his duty as a city mayor. He had led many drives including eviction drive, cleaning campaign and so on.
He dreamt for a better Dhaka. The dream came to an end as he breathed last yesterday at a hospital in London at the age of 65. Besides the apparel business, Mohammadi Group's Chairman Annisul Huq had power, IT, housing, agro-based businesses.
DGJadoo Broadband Limited and Nagorik Television belong to his group. Annisul Huq was born on October 27, 1952 in his maternal grandparents' house at Sonapur village under Sonagazi upazila of Feni. His paternal grandparents' house is in Kabirhat upazila of Noakhali's Companiganj. His father Shariful Huq was an official of Ansar.
Annisul Huq had completed his post-graduation in Economics from Chittagong University. He had got engaged with the apparel business before the rise of this sector in the 80s. He had got a job at a factory. Later, he himself had started the garments business.
Annisul Huq earned the fame as a TV anchor in late 80s and 90s. Two programs 'Anandamela' and 'Ontorale' had got immense popularity due to his charming presentation. He was also an announcer of BTV's result bulletins of the general election in 1991.
But later, he was seen in TV screens most of the time as a business leader. He had performed his duties as the president of BGMEA in 2005-2006. He also became the president of FBCCI in 2008.
Annisul Huq was also the president of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry from 2010 to 2012. Besides, he was the president of BIPPRO, the organization of private power generators in Bangladesh.
