Emabnkment by Bhodra River in Paikgacha upazila of Khulna is under threat of erosion again. The erosion began last year but after the cyclone Mora the embankment is being collapsing faster than the previous time.
Paikgacha Upazila Administration and Water Development Board authority on Thursday visited the Kalinagar embankment at Deluti union of the upazila.
Locals said, they have been trying to repair the embankment voluntarily. Water Development Board and Upazila Administration ensured the locals of repairing the embankment as soon as possible. Instantly the local administration as allotted 3 Metric Tons of food aid for local people.
According the sources, Kalinagar embankment is in danger of erosion for the last few days. Erosion began at 22nd polder of the embankment in Deluti union around half kilometer. Locals said, they are passing time in furry of losing houses.
Voluntary efforts are not enough to repair the embankment. It requires immediate steps to repair the embankment. Paikgacha upazila Chairman S M Babar Ali, UNO Fakrul Hasan, WDB Executive Engineer Pijus Kumar Kundu visited the damaged embankment on Thursday.
Local union parishad chairman Ripon Mandol said, the embankment is under threat of erosion. Union volunteers are working together to repair the embankment. Any time the embankment can be eroded which will create huge loss of the local people. All of the people of the union will be flooded in a blink of eye, he added.
The authority has ensured the local people to repair the embankment within one or two days. Local people demanded for a permanent repair of the embankment.
