'Made In Bangladesh' in BFI London Film Festival -The Asian Age


Following its World Premiere in Toronto International Film Festival in coming September, Rubaiyat Hossain's 'Made In Bangladesh' will have its European Premiere in the 63rdBFI London Film Festival to be held from October 2-13. 'Made In Bangladesh' will feature in the DEBATE section of the festival where films by François Ozon, Alex Gibney, Terrence Malick, Scott Z Burns, Ciro Guerra and other notable filmmakers will be screened as well.

BFI London Film Festival held its inaugural version in 1953 with cooperation from the British Film Institute (BFI). Although it is a public festival, a large number of film professionals and journalists attend this festival.

Festival director Tricia Tuttle specially mentions the film in her introductory note. Jemma Desai of BFI writes about 'Made In Bangladesh', "Eschewing a celebratory female empowerment narrative, Rubaiyat Hossain's writing weighs patient acts of administration equally with the alliances across social class and more dramatic acts of courage that encompass the labor of activism.


The result is a nuanced and quietly rousing portrait of the pleasures, possibilities and limitations of collective liberation and feminist solidarity."

'Made In Bangladesh' is Rubaiyat's third film after 'Meherjaan' (2011) and 'Under Construction' (2015) which is co-production of Bangladesh, France, Denmark and Portugal.

Khona Talkies (Bangladesh) and Les Films de l'Après-Midi (France) produced the film while Beofilm (Denmark), Midas Films (Portugal) and Cinema Cocoon (Bangladesh) are the co-producers. Pyramid International in doing the World Sales of the film while Pyramid Distribution is in charge of the French distribution.

The main cast of the film includes Rikita Nandini Shimu, Deepanwita Martin, Mayabe Rahman, Novera Rahman and Parvin Paru. The casting also includes Mostafa Monwar, Shatabdi Wadud, Jayraj, Momena Chowdhury, Wahida Mallik Joly and Samina Lutfa. Also, there are guest appearances by Shahana Goswami from India and the eminent actress Mita Chowdhury.
